Process
You will need to complete the following tasks in the order that they are written.
Step 1: Take the "Simile Pre-Test"
Click on the link on the left-hand side of this page. Answer the questions on the computer. Raise your hand when you are done and I will save your work on my flashdrive.
Step 2: Take a copy of the "Simile Sleuths" Worksheet from Ms. Scanlon.
Step 3: Go to "Said What" and answer question one on your Sleuth Sheet.
Step 4: Go to the next "Similes" page to answer questions two and three.
Step 5: Visit "Said What" to find five examples that use "As ____ as" and write them on your sheet for question four.
Step 6: Travel to the "English Club" to find five examples that use "like ____" and write them on your sleuth sheet for question five.
Step 7: Test your knowledge! Go to "Thinkquest." Read the sample poems. At the bottom of the page click on "Are you you ready to practice what you have learned?" When you are done with the activity, raise your hand and I will come to record your score.
Nice job! Let's stay on track. You're nearing the end of your investigation.
Step 8: The definition of a simile says that it is "...the comparison of two unlike things..." It's your job to identify what two things are being identified in a simile, so that you can explain it to your clients. Search "English Basics" to learn how to identify what is being compared in a simile. Report your findings on number six of your Sleuth sheet.
Step 9: Click on the "Simile Comparison" link on the left-hand side of this page. When you are finished, raise your hand and I will save your work on my drive.
Step 10: It is now time to report your findings and show what you have learned. Take a few minutes to study your notes, then hand them in to the teacher. Get a copy of the "Simile Post-test" from Ms.Scanlon.
Congratulations on your fine investigative work!
